Uribe wiretap investigation to be public

Colombian Congress’ Accusation Committee will make public the investigation into former President Alvaro Uribe’s role in the wiretapping scandal when proceedings resume on March 16, newspaper El Espectador reported Tuesday.

Former Senator Piedad Cordoba will be called to testify in the case, according to the the coordinator of the investigation, Representative Jaime Bocanegra.

Journalist Daniel Coronell and former presidential candidate Gustavo Petro will also be summoned.

The House’s decision is in accordance with the High Court ruling that the process should be public.

The investigation into Uribe’s role in the wiretapping scandal began in October 2010. Many members of his staff, including members of Colombia’as intelligence agency DAS which reported directly to him, have been incriminated in the scandal.
