U Party, Cambio Radical, Progressives win most seats in Bogota council

Following Sunday’s local elections, the parties holding the largest number of seats in the Bogota Council are the Movimiento Progresista, the U Party and the Cambio Radical Party, which now hold eight seats each, according to a report by Caracol Radio.

The Liberal Party came in fourth place with six seats and the Green Party immediately followed with five seats. Polo Democratico, which previously held 10 seats, saw its number reduced to four. Only three Conservative Party candidates now hold seats in the city council and the Movimiento Mira only won two seats. The PIN party, which is notorious for its ties to paramilitary groups, won just one seat.

The new formation is dramatically different to the previous formation, in which the U Party held the majority with 13 seats.

Of the 17 council members being investigated for involvement in irregularities with the management of recruitment, 11 were re-elected in Sunday’s elections.
