Tolima struggle to vital win in Liga Postobon

Deportes Tolima are close to a spot in the semi finals of the Colombian Liga Postobon following a hard-fought victory at Envigado on Sunday.

Envigado were first to score at Polideportivo Sur stadium, with Eder Muniver putting the home side in the lead two minutes after the break.

Tolima then turned things around through Mike Campaz in the 67th minute and Rodrigo Marangoni in the 70th, but Carlos Alvarez restored the balance in the 84th.

The visitors had the final say however as Franco Arizana netted the winner, 2-3 in the 85th minute.

Independiente Medellin, currently in second place, were held to a goalless draw by fellow Copa Libertadores participants Once Caldas and are now two points behind Tolima. The defending champions do have a game in hand.

Santa Fe climbed to third place thanks to a 2-1 win over last-placed Quindio. Omar Perez scored both of the home side’s goals, doing so in the 16th and 68th minute. Quindio’s only goal came from Hanyer Mosquera in the 27th.

The Cali classic between America and Deportivo, both far away from the top spots, ended in a 1-2 result. Wilmer Parra and Luis Muriel scored for Deportivo, while only Sergio Galvan found the target for the hosts.

In Sunday’s other games, Boyaca Chico beat Cucuta 2-0 and Pereira drew 2-2 with La Equidad.

Based on current standings, Tolima, Medellin, Santa Fe and Real Cartagena are on course for the semi finals.
