Tolima beat Once Caldas to jump to third place

Deportes Tolima earned a valuable 1-3 victory at Once Caldas to defend their third place in the Colombian Liga Postobon.

Sunday’s top clash had Once Caldas face Tolima in the city of Manizales, where Jorge Perlaza put the visiting side ahead in the 57th minute.

Dario Bustos doubled the advantage three minutes later but Alexis Henriquez pulled one back in the 69th. Tolima had the final say however as Wilder Medina found the net for 1-3 in the 83rd minute.

Boyaca Chico and La Equidad drew 0-0 in the city of Tunja, leaving the two sides in fifth and sixth position respectively.

Independiente Medellin had a tough night against Cortulua but did end up winning the game 2-1. Martin Arzuaga scored both home goals, the last of which came in the 89th minute. Cortulua’s only goal came from Santiago Benitez.

America de Cali dropped further away from the top eight following a painful 0-2 defeat by Cartagena. Jose Najera broke the deadlock in the 65th minute and Edwards Jimenez added a second late in added time.

The match between Deportes Quindio and Deportivo Cali was suspended due to heavy rainfall and rescheduled for Monday morning.

Leaders Santa Fe earned a 1-0 win over Envigado on Friday. The only goal at El Campin stadium came from Sergio Otalvaro in the 30th minute.

Second-placed Cucuta Deportivo defended their spot with a 2-1 win over Millonarios. Federico Barrionuevo and Roberto Polo scored for the home side, Yovanny Arrechea did so for the guests.

Atletico Huila jumped to fourth place thanks to a 3-2 victory over Pereira. Gonzalo Martinez and Ivan Velasquez both had their goals canceled out by Pereira as Juan Parodi and Dayron Perez equalised after their respective goals, but Victor Guaza netted the winning goal in the first minute of added time, 3-2.

Currently on course for a spot in the next round are Santa Fe, Cucuta, Tolima, Huila, Chico, La Equidad, Medellin and Quindio.
