Thief steals ex-mayor Enrique Peñalosa’s bike

Former mayor of Bogota and bicycle enthusiast Enrique Peñalosa’s bike was stolen, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.

One of the ex-mayor’s bodyguards, while protecting the bicycle in Peñalosa’s absence, witnessed a woman being robbed by a young man. The guard chased after the thief and, while he was gone, another boy ran up and stole the unattended bike.

Peñalosa is known for tranforming the car-dominated Bogota into a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly city. He created bike paths that can be found on almost all major streets.

It looks as though Peñalosa may be stuck riding the TransMilenio for a while.
