Terror victims walk out on speech Uribe

Colombian terrorism victims embarrassed President Alvaro Uribe in
front of the Spanish Princes of Asturia Friday by walking out on his
speech.

Uribe and the Princes were attanding the International Congress on Victims of Terrorism in Medellin as part of the royal family’s official visit to Colombia.

When Uribe took the stand and reiterated his rejection of a humanitarian deal, the exchange of hostages for imprisoned guerrillas, a large group of relatives of hostages, stoof up and left the room.

Many of the relatives of hostages are in favor of this humanitarian deal and see it as the safest way to bring their loved ones home. The government repeatedly spoke against this deal, demanding the FARC unilaterally releases their hostages. The Colombian military has the order to release hostages through military action, which the relatives disagree with, because it would threaten the lives of those held in the jungle.
