A Swedish tourist has been missing in Colombia since May, media from that country reported Thursday.
According to the reports, the 27-year old Jan Braunisch was last heard of when he emailed his wife in the middle of May, a week after arriving in the capital Bogota and apparently before planning to travel from Colombia to Panama.
“I’ve reported him missing to the police,” his sister Aleqzia was quoted as saying by newspaper Expressen.
According to the missing tourist’s sister, her brother was a veteran traveler.
“He’s well used to travelling. Recently, he spent six months in Africa by himself,” said the sister.
Braunisch’ last blogpost was posted on May 15 in which he said to be in Riosucio, a municipality in the jungles close to the Panamanian border.
The area where Braunisch last reported from is infamous for the presence of leftist guerrilla groups and neo-paramilitary group the Urabeños.
Sweden’s Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the allegedly missing tourist, saying that international police organization Interpol is in charge of investigating the whereabouts of Braunisch.
