Millonarios coach Hernan Torres remains positive about his side’s chances of making the Copa Sudamerica quarterfinals despite a 3-1 first-leg defeat to Brazilian side Palmeiras on Tuesday.
The Colombian giants found themselves two goals down with the final whistle looming but then struck through defender Artur on 85 minutes.
Although they conceded again before the end the vital away goal could prove crucial if the scores are level after the second leg in Bogota on October 23.
“It was a game that we controlled for first half; unfortunately we lost the second goal very quickly after the break. Then we made changes, we rode in the game, we subdued them and scored a goal, but then came an unfortunate play by Palmeiras when they scored the third goal,” said Torres.
On the return leg Torres added, “It’s a game which we have to play well if we are to qualify. We have to work hard but we know we have a great team.”
