A shooting between family members in Colombia’s capital city of Bogota left five people dead, local media reported Sunday.
According to police, the five family members formed part of “Los Pascuales,” a drug trafficking gang active in northern Bogota.
“Really [the shooting] is due to a discussion or dispute over territory. All of them belonged to the same family clan,” said Colonel Mariano Botero, operative commander of the Bogota police.
Some 120 policemen sealed of the area of the shooting, known as La Perla, in order to “avoid a bloodbath.”
Police reported that three of the victims died on the spot, while two more died in the local Simon Bolivar Hospital. The shooting also left an unidentified sixth person wounded.
“This bloody event took place due to a settlement of accounts between two generations of [P]ascuales for the control of the illegal [family] business,” Botero said.
Local media reported that the five bodies would be handed over to the Medical Forensics Agency for further analysis.
