7 suspected ELN members captured

Seven suspected members of the ELN guerrilla group were captured in the northeastern Colombian Santander department, reported Radio Caracol Thursday.

The alleged members of the “Efrain Pabon Pabon” front of the ELN were captured in “Operation Phantom of the East,” headed by police in the city of Bucaramanga. The detainees are suspected of being involved in January’s attack on the Cano Limon Covenas pipeline, according to Colonel Edgar Nieto, police commander of the region.

Those arrested are also suspected to have been involved in the bombing of an army patrol moving between Pamplona and Cubara.

“In addition to this we can attribute murders, kidnappings, extortion and terrorism to the group,” said the police commander.
