Seven die in drug gang shoot out

Seven people died when two rival drug gangs got involved in a shout out
in a village in the north of Antioquia Thursday. Some of the dead may
be innocent villagers.

After the confrontation, inhabitants of Pajuila dragged the bodies to the town hall and demonstrated, demanding more security from the authorities.

Local and departmental authorities held a emergency meeting about the security situation in the area.

The north of Antioquia, like the departments of Cauca, Chocó and Córdoba have seen a sharp increase of homocides after drug gangs are trying to take control of the drug trafficking routes that were left unattended after the demobilization of paramilitary organization AUC.
