Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos on Wednesday announced the appointment of Santiago Rojas as the country’s new trade minister.
Rojas will replace outgoing Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados who had earlier accepted to become president of Santos’ U party.
When it comes to trade, industry and tourism, the newly appointed minister “knows the issue like nobody,” said the president at a public event in the southern Colombian city of Huila.
Rojas graduated in law at Bogota’s Javeriana University and did a masters in International Relations and Negotiations at the capital city’s top Andes University.
Before being appointed trade minister, Rojas was director of state-owned bank Bancoldex, deputy foreign Trade minister, director of tax office DIAN, adviser to Colombia’s delegation at the World Trade Organization and director of Santos’ campaign team at the so-called Good Governance Foundation.
