The semi finals of this year’s Copa Colombia will offer two entertaining clashes as Santa Fe of Bogota face Medellin’s Atletico Nacional, while Barranquilla outfit Junior meet with Deportivo Pasto.
Nacional lost their third round match with Atletico Bucaramanga 1-0 but had already won the first leg 2-0. The 2-1 aggregate result as such, earns the Medellin side a spot in the semi finals.
Bucaramanga gave it their all in Wednesday’s return leg, but John Ulloque’s goal in the 72nd minute wasn’t enough for them to avoid defeat.
Junior drew 2-2 with Deportes Quindio after a 0-0 draw in the first leg, but won the penalty shoot-out that allowed them to advance to the next stage.
Luis Ruiz put Junior in the lead after 29 minutes but two goals from Carlos Rodas (47th and 65th minutes) turned things around for Quindio. With seven minutes to go however, Carlos Bacca set the score to 2-2. In the shoot-out, Junior scored five against three for Quindio.
Deportivo Pasto secured their semi final spot with a 4-3 aggregate win over Santa Fe. However, as Santa Fe scored more goals than Quindio and Bucaramanga, the Bogota side advance as ‘best losers’ based on goals scored.
The first leg, played in Pasto, ended in a 3-1 win to the home team. At El Campin stadium, Santa Fe won 2-1 with goals from Juan Quintero (34th) and Omar Perez (53rd). In between, Carlos Hidalgo equalized on 38 minutes.
The semi finals will be played on October 28 and November 4.
