Santa Fe and Nacional share points in crucial game

Independiente Santa Fe and Atletico Nacional remain on top of Group B of the Copa Mustang II group phase as the two teams held each other to a draw on Saturday.

A defensive error allowed Nacional’s Giovanni Moreno to put his side in the lead after 46 minutes at a loaded Campin stadium in Bogota.

Minutes later, the Medellin outfit could have added another but a headed from Maggiolo ended up on top of the crossbar.

Santa Fe then took the initiative and Argentinian Omar Perez levelled the score one minute before the hour mark.

Both teams had chances to decide the match but no more goals were scored in Bogota.

In the group’s other match, Atletico Huila came very close to joining Santa Fe and Nacional at the top but eventually drew 1-1 with Deportes Tolima.

Jeison Quiñonez put Huila in the lead after 75 minutes at Guillermo Plazas Alcid stadium in Neiva.

But Tolima, while practically out of contention in this group phase, refused to give up and got the equaliser through Davinson Monsalve in the last minute of regular time.

Santa Fe and Nacional both have seven points from their first four games, but Santa Fe have an invisible advantage due to their higher classification after the first round. Huila are still in contention with five points, while Tolima’s chances are practically zero with just two points.
