Four teams battle for one remaining spot in the next round of the Colombian Liga Postobon, as the regular season concludes this weekend.
The action starts on Saturday as Deportivo Pereira host Deportes Quindio while Santa Fe face Atletico Huila, but the matches that matter don’t take place until Sunday.
Cucuta Deportivo are currently in eighth place and have everything in their own hands. A win at Real Cartagena will be enough for Cucuta to secure the final spot in the next round.
Should Cucuta drop points however, Deportivo Cali are next in line to take advantage. Cali play away to La Equidad, who themselves are in seventh position and certain to advance. As such, La Equidad may not be as motivated as they normally are.
Less chance of qualifying have Millonarios and America de Cali, who are both three points behind Cucuta and as such, theoretically, still in contention.
Millonarios travel to Colombia’s second city to face Independiente while America host Boyaca Chico in Cali.
Another race that is worth following is the battle for first and second place, as these two spots give the teams a ‘hidden point’ should they finish level on points with another team in the next round.
Deportes Tolima currently occupy the first spot but have the same amount of points at Once Caldas and Atletico Nacional. Santa Fe are just one point behind.
Tolima and Nacional get to decide things between them as the two meet in Ibague on Sunday. Tolima only need a win to secure the top spot as their goal record is much better than anyone else’s.
Once Caldas will certainly hope for Tolima and Nacional to draw, while beating Cortulua in an away match themselves.
