PIN may sue Green Party Bogota mayor candidate

The controversial Party for National Integration (PIN) is considering filing a lawsuit against the Green Party mayoral candidate for Bogota, Enrique Peñalosa for defamation.

The lawsuit would be based Peñalosa’s comment which he said the PIN is, “practically a criminal force,” when asked if he would form an alliance with the party.

The President of PIN, Angel Alirio Moreno, said, “We don’t understand why he is saying that when we haven’t even asked to join his campaign,” El Espectador reported Friday.

He added that the PIN do not think Peñalosa is an ideal candidate for the city of Bogota and that by speaking out against the PIN Peñalosa is “abusing the honor and good name,” of those who belong to his party.

During his run for presidency last year, Green Party candidate Antanas Mockus said that the Green Party would consider alliances with any party except for the PIN.

Since its inception in 2009, the PIN has been criticized because many members have family ties or other links to former legislators who are currently in prison for their association with paramilitaries.
