Leading candidate in the Bogota mayoral race Gustavo Petro said Tuesday a smear campaign is being prepared to discredit him and his family, Colombian media reported.
The leftist candidate did not want to refer specifically to the persons using the campaign to damage his image but he let it be known that a member or members of the city council is getting quotes for the cost of 1,000 radio advertisements to attack him and his family in order to influence the elections of October 30.
“What we do is for the good of the citizens of Bogota, for the good of a society with good customs like ours,” said Petro, who lead the latest opinion poll after the withdrawal of Antanas Mockus.
Colombia is holding local elections on October 30.
