Peña takes stage victory in Vuelta a Colombia

Victor Hugo Peña jumped away at the right moment to win the 12th stage
in this year’s Vuelta a Colombia. Jose Rujano didn’t have his overall
lead threatened.

Stage 12 led from Ubate to Tunja, in the department of Boyaca, over a distance of 158 kilometers.

Peña, riding for team Rock Racing, had an advantage of seven seconds over Juan Pablo Wilches at the finish. Veteran Spaniard Francisco Mancebo finished third.

Jose Rujano (Gobernacion del Zulia) came in tenth at 13 seconds and easily defended his overall lead. The Venezuelan is trailed by Freddy Montaña at more than five minutes, and appears to be on his way to an easy final victory.

Stage 13, the penultimate in this Vuelta a Colombia, takes the peloton from Tunja to the capital city, Bogota.
