New ambassadors to Colombia from Slovakia, Cyprus, North Korea, Serbia, Denmark, and the Philippines presented their credentials to outgoing President Alvaro Uribe on Tuesday during a ceremony in the Casa de Nariño presidential palace.
The presentation of ambassadorial credentials is a formality of international diplomacy. President Uribe will leave office on August 7 to make way for the incoming administration of Juan Manuel Santos.
The U.S.’s will also be sending a new ambassador to Colombia this year, when William Brownfield comes to the end of his post in Bogota. President Barack Obama nominated Peter Michael McKinley to fill the position.
