National Police launches campaign against soccer violence

Colombia’s National Police Wednesday launched a new security campaign
for sports events to tackle the growing violence in soccer stadiums.

The campaign with the slogan ‘Live the emotion with peace in your heart’ calls on the fans to enjoy the soccer games with “happiness and passion, but in harmony and peace”.

The heavily armed policemen at the corners of the pitch necessary to defend players of the opposite team from falling bags of lighters and water bags will be replaced by “patrolmen wearing white uniforms and carrying shields with messages of coexistence on it,” Orlando Paez Baron, Public Security Commander of the National Police, said.

The Commander added that they will also work together with different sports bars to prevent aggression and violence outside the stadiums, like meeting regularly with the owners of the bars “to inform them about the interest of the National Police.”
