Music festival to tour Colombia in quest for talent outside Bogota

The five-month-long Rockombia Shock music festival will tour cities around Colombia — excluding Bogota — in a search for fresh, untapped sounds.

The idea behind the festival, which will wind through Manizales, Medellin, Cali, San Andres, and Piedecuesta (Santander) beginning in June, is to search for emerging musical groups outside of the capital, in order to showcase their talent at a grand concert held in Bogota in October.

To kick off the lengthy selection process, emerging bands with no more than five years of history and no more than one album released send audition tapes to the festival judges.

The judges then elect ten bands from each region to play a concert in their respective cities. At the end, the tour will select one finalist from each of the five participating cities to play and compete in the final Rockombia Shock concert.

The winner will be presented at the 2011 Shock Music Awards, and the five finalists will be nominated for the People’s Choice Award at the ceremony.

Colombia’s musical geography will be exposed in this rhythmical circuit around the country, and organizers have said that they expect a lot of variation and contrasts from the different regions.

Information about registration, dates and locations can be found at www.shock.com.co.
