Modern airport terminal to be opened in Bogota

A new modern terminal will be officially inaugurated in the El Dorado airport of Colombia’s capital Bogota on Wednesday.

The new approximately 1.1 million square foot construction will be capable of handling nearly 300,000 passengers a month and will allegedly be the most modern terminal of Latin America because of its design, functionality and capability, reported Caracol Radio.

The design of the airport “is very clean, with the latest technology and enormous areas that are going to change the perspective of travellers,” said Juan Pulido, the head of the operating company of the international El Dorado airport (Opain).

The five-story terminal will allegedly become the largest in Latin America, utilizing the latest technology that is already used in many European airports to greatly increase the efficiency of entry and arrival of passengers. It is expected to come to a hefty price tag of around $1 billion.

The national terminal will allegedly be ready in 2014, marking the end of the old building that was inaugurated in 1959.

President Juan Manuel Santos is expected to attend the event that begins at 6PM, although his presence has not yet been confirmed. He would be joined by other representatives of the government, Congress, diplomats, business groups and representatives of the airline industry.
