Missing son of disgraced former senator Yidis Medina reappears

Controversial ex-congresswoman Yidis Medina’s son, who had been missing for two weeks, reappeared safe and sound in the eastern Colombian city of Bucaramanga.

Authorities have ruled out the possibility that 15-year-old Mayner Steven Salcedo Medina was kidnapped, as the boy claimed to be in Bucaramanga of his own free will.

The boy disappeared on January 26 after leaving home to study with a friend. He never arrived at his school, located across from the United States Embassy in Bogota. Medina said her son had left behind a mysterious note that only said “see you at the ‘use’.”

Yidis Medina is currently serving a four-year sentence under house arrest for accepting bribes from members of Alvaro Uribe’s administration to change her vote in favor of amending the constitution to allow the president’s first reelection.
