Medellin tourism blossoms over holidays

Medellin tourism booms this holiday season, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Office.

The city’s airports saw a 29 percent increase in visitors entering the country in December, in comparison to the same month in 2009, reports the Administrative Department of Security and over one million travelers entered Medellin by land.

Thanks to a free admission program led by the Mayor’s Office, several tourists attractions in Medellin reported a significant number of visitors. The Museum of Antioquia, the house of Colombian artist Pedro Nel Gomez, the Museum of Modern Art and Parque Explore were the most popular.

The image of Medellin for foreign visitors is very positive, according to the latest survey conducted by the National Consulting Center which recorded a 99 percent overall satisfaction

Half of the tourists come from Latin America, one in four are European, and one in five are American.
