Medellin promotes August Flower Festival abroad

Organizers of Medellin’s “Feria de Flores,” or Flower Festival are sending colorful caravans to travel around Colombia, and cities worldwise to promote the Antioquian city’s annual event, held August 8.

From May 31 to June 9 the caravans will travel around Miami, Panama, Quito, Lima and the Dominican Republic, hosting breakfast meetings with major travel agents and PR agents, who will also be treated to a demonstration of how “silliteros” create their work.

Silleteros are artisans who carry elaborate flower arrangements known as “silletas” on their backs as they parade through the streets during the annual Flower Fair.

Caravans will also visit the Colombian cities of Bogota, Barranquilla, Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Armenia, Monteria, Sincelejo, Santa Marta and Bucaramanga from May 19 to 29 to promote the festival.

This year’s parade will be held in the streets of Medellin on August 8.
