Medellin city council chairman shot

The chairman of Medellin’s city council was injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on his car, local authorities said Sunday.

John Jaime Moncada Ospina was driving through the upper class neighborhood of Laureles when his vehicle was taken under fire. His bodyguards returned fire and killed one of the attackers.

Medellin mayor Alonso Salazar immediately called a security meeting and President Alvaro Uribe offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the remaining attackers.
