Colombian authorities capture leading drug trafficker

Colombian authorities have captured Luis Fernando Otalvero Orozco, alias “El Matematico”, allegedly a major player in the drug trafficking organization of “Don Lucho.”

Orozco, who is alleged to have co-ordinated the transport of more than 60 tons of cocaine to the United States through Central America, was detained by Colombia’s Central Directorate of Judicial Police and Intelligence (Dijin), in Medellin.

Dijin deputy director Colonel Humberto Luis Poveda said Orozco was wanted for extradition by the United States for his drug trafficking crimes. It’s believed the Don Lucho cartel made profits of more than $24 million per ton of cocaine, money which entered Colombia in containers.

The officer added that so far it is unknown if Orozco had any involvement with the Independiente Santa Fe soccer club money laundering scandal, in which the team’s business was used to process profits from major Colombian cartels.
