A magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked Colombia Saturday morning. There were no preliminary reports on damages or injuries.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Yacuanquer, a village in the southwestern Nariño department some seven miles from the capital of Pasto, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.
According to local authorities, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries in southwest Colombia as of Saturday morning.
Local newspaper El Pais wrote the earthquake could be felt “with intensity” in Colombia’s third largest city, Cali.
According to newspaper El Tiempo, there was “panic in large parts of the country” on Saturday morning. In the capital, Bogota, some people left buildings out of fear of collapse. There were no reports of injuries or material damage in Bogota.
Twitter users in Antioquia, Nariño, Valle del Cauca and other parts of the country reported “heavy movement” in their areas.
The earthquake was strong enough to be registered in neighboring countries Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela.
