Lucho Garzon leaves Polo

Former Bogota mayor Luis Eduardo ‘Lucho’ Garzon announced Wednesday
he will leave opposition party Polo Democratico and enter the race for
the 2010 presidency independently.

Garzon told newspaper El Espectador he prefers to enter the presidential race alone, because his now former party has not been able to define whether they want to run the presidential election race alone or together with other political parties.

Lucho continued criticizing the social democratic Polo for criticizing President Alvaro Uribe without offering alternative policies that could help gain voters.

For Garzon “it is enough now.” He will officially launch his Polo-less campaign Thursday.

Polo Democratico is one of the two bigger opposition parties. The second one is the Liberal Party of former President Cesar Gaviria.
