Parapolitics investigation against vice-President re-opened

Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office re-opened a preliminary investigation against the country’s vice-President, Francisco Santos, for his alleged ties to paramilitary groups.

According to assistant Prosecutor General Fernando Parejo, there never had been a serious investigation of evidence and the charges against the vice-President had unjustly been dropped.

Parejo told W Radio that investigators will again ask paramilitary bosses Salvatore Mancuso, ‘Don Berna’ and ‘El Aleman’ to testify about the alleged plans their organization AUC and Santos had to form a paramilitary group inside the capital Bogota.

Santos himself will also be asked to appear and make a statement.

After the preliminary investigation the Prosecutor General will decide if his office wants to officially prosecute the vice-President.
