IG to open corruption investigation against former minister

Colombia’s Inspector General on Monday announced a preliminary corruption investigation against former Transport Minister Andres Uriel Gallego.

Gallego, who served in the cabinet of former President Alvaro Uribe from 2002 till 2010, was accused of corruptly allowing irregularities in the construction of the Ruta del Sol (Sun Route), a highway connecting the capital Bogota with the Caribbean coast which was one of the largest infrastructure projects of the Uribe administration.
