Colombia’s national police will sponsor 100 Haitian children to study in Bogota schools for at least a year, reported radio Caracol on Friday.
National police director, General Oscar Naranjo, confirmed that although the number has initially been put at 100 there is room for twice as many youths to be offered places in Bogota institutions.
“The idea is that the police will sponsor the children of the Haitian police forces for one year, whilst the country overcomes the humanitarian crisis from which it is suffering,” explained Naranjo.
He added that contacts are being made with the Haitian government, in order for the plans to be carried out as soon as possible.
