Ex-governor in west Colombia arrested on corruption charges

Authorities in Quibdo, the capital of Choco, arrested the suspended governor of the western Colombian department on corruption charges Tuesday.

Suspended Governor Jose Patrocinio Sanchez Montes de Oca is suspected of corruptly granting public works contracts while he was mayor of the department capital in 2003.

Sanchez Montes de Oca first ran into Colombian justice in 2009, when he and his brother, former Representative Odin Sanchez Montes de Oca, were accused of having used ties to the ELN guerrilla group for their political gain.
