Former cops and soldier arrested for drug links

Authorities on Saturday arrested eight former policemen and one former army sergeant for alleged ties to drug trafficking organizations.

According to newspaper El Espectador, eight former policemen were arrested in the south western department of Valle del Cauca for ties to the drug gang “Los Rastrojos.” According to the accusations, the former cops allowed the drug gang to operate in their jurisdiction.

According to Caracol Radio, a former army sergeant was arrested in the north Colombian town of Sincelejo for allegedly being one of the leaders of the neo-paramilitary drug trafficking organization “Los Paisas.”

All suspects will have to respond to conspiracy charges.
