Ex-Choco governor survives murder attempt

A local leader of the Liberal party and former governor of the western Colombian department of Choco is recovering in hospital after being shot in his home Saturday.

Ex-congressman and former Choco governor August Ciceron Mosquera was shot in the face, buttocks and hand by two men on Saturday night, according to relatives.

Ciceron was treated in the emergency room in Quibdo before being taken to Bogota for reconstructive surgery on his face.

The current governor of Choco condemned the attack and ordered an investigation into who was responsible and what their motives were. Malcolm Sli Cordoba said, “He has been a person who has given his life to Choco, and to try to silence his voice is a cowardly act on the part of the attackers.”
