5 killed, 23 hurt in crash in northern Colombia

Five people were killed and 23 others were injured Sunday in an accident on the Central Caribbean Road, linking Barranquilla and Cartagena.

The accident took place at 7:30 AM, at Puerto Caiman, Atlantico.

According to traffic authorities, a bus driver lost control of the vehicle when the bus’ crankshaft broke. Police captain Edwin Naranjo denied earlier reports that the driver had fallen asleep while at the wheel.

The bus with its 29 passengers left Cartagena for Father Hollman’s sanctuary at 5:30 AM Sunday morning.

Father Hollman, a healer and prophet for many, is a former Catholic priest who holds weekly religious services in Puerto Colombia, Atlántico.

Four victims were pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. One victim had not been identified at the time this report was written.

The injured, mostly with head trauma and leg fractures, were taken to hospitals and medical centers in Barranquilla.

Last October another bus accident killed one person and injured 32 on their way to Father Hollman’s sanctuary.

Also in northern Colombia, but in the Department of Antioquia, three people were killed and two others were injured in an accident on the road that links Medellin and the Caribbean Coast of Colombia

The accident took place between Santa Rosa and Yarumal, where a car and a tractor-trailer collided.

According to the official report, those pronounced dead were identified as Elias de Jesus Hernández, Jose Franck Beltran, and Ever Acosta.
