FARC poster girl arrested 4 years after demobilization

A demobilized FARC poster girl is arrested in west-central Colombia after it was revealed that she failed to confess to all her crimes when she disarmed, Ultimas Noticias reported Monday.

Jhasmit Andrea Velez Moncada, alias “Feliener” or “Felino,” has appeared on various FARC poster and advertising campaigns and supposedly belonged to the “Aurelio Rodriguez” front of the FARC.

Velez Moncada, who officially demobilized in 2007, was arrested in Pereira, department of Risaralda, over the weekend by intelligence authorities who found that she had neglected to confess her involvement in several serious crimes while an active FARC member.

She is alleged to have taken part in the seizing of a police base in Choco in 2005, in which eight were killed and four more kidnapped, and the testimonies of other demobilized FARC members include her in earlier attacks in Risaralda and Antioquia.

During these two earlier attacks, “Feliener” was a minor, according to DAS, after having been recruited to the FARC when she was 15 years old.

Following her detention, all benefits of the demobilization process have been suspended and she now faces prosecution for the crimes of hostage taking and murder.
