Ex-congressman captured for ‘FARC-politics’

A former congressman was arrested by the Technical Investigation Team of the Prosecutor General’s Office (CTI) for alleged “farcpolitics”, newspaper El Espectador reported Friday.

Former representative for Guainia Pedro Nelson Pardo, is accused by the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of having commissioned the extortion and corruption of the electorate in relation to an alleged agreement with the rebel group for a congressional seat in 2006.

The ex-politician was caught in Cunday in the department of Tolima and will be transferred in the next few hours to the Prosecutor General’s Office in Bogota. Pardo must stand before the Criminal Court in a few days after which they will determine whether or not to award him security protection which is subject to there being charges filed against him.

On March 24, the Supreme Court opened an investigation into another former congressman for “parapolitics” who was previously accused of “farcpolitics”.
