Environment Minister to attend Infrastructure Summit

Colombia’s Minister of Environment, Housing and Development will attend the Andean Infrastructure Summit, which will take place March 23 and 24 in Bogota.

Minister Beatriz Uribe will be a part of the “Colombian Waters Departmental Plan” session, where she will give details explaining the different projects her ministry has planned for 2011. In addition, she will reveal her new investment strategies for financing the projects, such as the utilization of pension funds and severance pay as a new funding mechanism proposed by the Colombian government.

Uribe’s presence in the infrastructure summit organized by Business News Americas, signifies the sanitation project as an important project in Colombia.

Recently, the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Development announced an investment of $257 million for different potable water projects for and water sanitation in different regions of Colombia.

The initiative is part of the government’s National Development Plan for 2014, which aims to provide drinking water to 2.8 million of people and health services to 4.5 million inhabitants, as well as repair one hundred percent of the damages of last year’s rainy season.

Other benefits of the plan are the connection of 90,000 low-income homes to the sanitation network, the treatment of 36% of residual water and the adequate disposal of solid waste in 923 towns, according to Uribe.

To expound on this, and other infrastructure issues, the Minister of Environment, Housing and Development will be part of a panel discussion at the Andean Infrastructure Summit which will take place March 23 and 24 at the JW Marriot Hotel in Bogota, Colombia.

In addition to Uribe, the summit will be attented by important figures of the public and private sectors of infrastructure of the Andean region including the General Manager of the Metro Bogota Project Camilo Zea, the Water Director of Public Businesses of Medellin Francisco Piedrahita, the President of the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure Juan Martin Caicedo among others.
