Drug traffickers’ days are counted: Defense Minister

Colombia’s drug gangs are on their last legs, Defense Minister Juan
Manuel Santos said Friday. Only nine of the 33 drug gangs that operated
in Colombia still exist, he says.

According to the Minister, authorities killed 1,175 members of drug gangs and arrested 5,625 since 2006 when paramilitary organization AUC, responsible for most the drug trafficking from Colombia, was demobilized.

“We will not allo these groups, directed by these drug traffickers to grow and profilerate and we are making more progress every day in their dismantling,” Santos said.

“Just like we beat the FARC, the ELN and the drug trafficking organizations, we will do the same with these criminals that want to  fish in troubled waters. Our security forces will catch them,” the Minister added.
