Drug trafficker under house arrest

A Colombian judge granted house arrest to a suspected drug trafficker
under investigation for murder, drug trafficking and escape from prison.

Ricardo Jose ‘Richard’ Ramos was granted house arrest after a plot to assassinate him at the clinic where he was being held was uncovered.

General Gustavo Adolfo Ricaurte, commander of the Cali police, said that the judge’s decision is “a risk to the community
and a risk to those who protect it.”

‘Richard’, believed to be the ringleader of the illegal armed group ‘Los Machos’ and right hand man of extradited drug kingpin ‘Don Diego’ escaped from police custody in Cali in 2004.

Following the judge’s ruling ‘Richard’ will remain under police surveillance in his house in Zarzal in the Valle del Cauca in south-west Colombia.
