The continental season of Deportivo Cali already came to an end,
following a 3-1 aggregate defeat by Universidad de Chile in the Copa
Nissan Sudamericana.
The first leg was played two weeks ago and ended in a 2-1 victory to the Chilean side. As result, Cali needed to give it their all in order to survive in the tournament.
At Pascual Guerrero stadium however, Cali’s effort just wasn’t good enough to compete with Universidad, who scored the only goal of the match through Walter Montillo in the 69th minute.
The negative results follows a series of Colombian disappointments in the Copa Libertadores earlier this year, with America de Cali, Independiente Medellin and Boyaca Chico failed to advance from the group phase.
La Equidad are now the only remaining Colombian hope. The Bogota outfit visit Union Española (Chile) on August 26th after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
