10 kidnapped from Antioquia holiday home

Ten people were kidnapped Sunday night from a holiday home in the municipality of Sopetran, Antioquia, just north of Medellin.

According to initial reports, 15 gunmen entered the house located in the village of El Rodeo at around 7PM in the evening claiming to be members of a security agency.

However, apparently once inside the property, the men began stealing valuables from the holidaymakers, ultimately kidnapping nine men and one woman who is said to be currently living in Spain and had arrived in Medellin 15 days prior.

The men then took the 10 from the area, leaving the police with no trace except for three abandoned vehicles in the neighborhood of Aranjuez in Medellin, 20 miles from the crime scene.

Speaking to Caracol Radio, Antioquian police said they believe the crime to have been carried out by a criminal gang linked to alias “Sebastian” of the “Oficina de Envigado,” as a result of the territorial war taking place between himself and fellow gang leader “Valenciano.”

Search operations within the department of Antioquia are underway.
