This year’s relentless rainy season has spiraled out of control and has now begun taking its toll on Colombia’s most precious cultural treasure, soap operas or “telenovelas.”
In addition to devastating local roadways, communities, and natural wildlife, torrential downpours have turned personal with their dramatic sabotage of a soap opera production in northern Bogota.
A landslide caused by feverish storms and flooding in the local area caused a production team for the Caracol telenovela “Primera Dama” to be trapped inside the Mountain Club in Suba for nearly eight hours, without outside contact.
The group was among 72 people trapped in the venue from 5PM Tuesday until 1AM Wednesday morning, when they were rescued by “jungle cops,” firefighters, and national police officers.
CityTV Reporter Adriana Jimenez was also trapped at the club, and recounted the Rolos’ dramatic late night rescue as very rugged and risky, as they traipsed through trees and darkness to return to society.
