Annual Jazz Festival underway in Bogota

This September marks the 18th annual Jazz in the Park Festival in Bogota, Colombia’s capital city.

The festival, which began this past Sunday amidst the 25 Annual Jazz Festival occurring in theaters across Bogota, will have its big day-long park performances this Saturday and Sunday with artists primarily from the United States.

Organizers of the festival announced the names of the artists that will appear on Thursday, and the list is sure to be fun, and appropriate for the whole family according to Bogota’s Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports.

Notable American artists to perform will be: Maceo Parker, African-American jazz artist; and Steve Coleman, jazz artist who works different styles of music into his own such as rap and funk.

Colombian artists will include Byron Sanchez from Medellin and Jorge el Leon Pardo de Cartagena.

In addition to these artists, bands will include the William Pérez Trío, Andrew Urbina Cuarteto, Bituin, Holman Álvarez Trío, Ricardo Narváez Quinteto, Nowhere Jazz Quintet, Fatso & The Hollow Bodies and Ensamble Tríptico.
