A court in Buenos Aires has denied a release request from Colombian former model and alleged narco-trafficker Angie Sanclemente, reports AFP
The National Chamber of Criminal Appeals was considering dismissing the case against Sanclemente, currently charged with running an international drug trafficking ring, due to lack of evidence.
The model is suspected of running a multi-million dollar drugs operation using Argentine models as drug mules on first class flights. She was arrested in Buenos Aires on May 27 after one of her team of “angels” was found carrying 55kg of cocaine.
Sanclemente has consistently maintained her innocence, claiming she was “set-up.”
Last month, the former beauty queen pleaded innocent before Judge Rafael Caputo and denied accusations that she was the person referred to by the code name “Diamond,” in a number of intercepted telephone calls which discussed drug trafficking operations.
The model was born in Bogota in 1979 and was crowned Colombian National Coffee Queen in 2000.
