Colombian navy seize drug stash worth $5M

The Colombian Navy on Wednesday intercepted a boat carrying nearly 485 pounds of both marijuana and cocaine off the country’s Pacific coast.

According to sources the boat was carrying 463 pounds of cocaine and 21 pounds of marijuana, which holds a value of around five million dollars.

The seizure occurred in the western Choco department of Colombia, near the town of Jurado, close to the Panama border.

Following the discovery of the drugs in the bed of the boat, the two subjects were turned over to authorities for drug-trafficking, possession, and manufacturing.

Colombia’s remote Choco region is a hotbed for drug trafficking and criminal activity and seizures are quite common. In January, 574 kilograms of cocaine bound for Central America, was seized near the same town that the seizure occurred. The area is the main exit route for the 140 tons of cocaine produced in western Colombia.
