Demobilized and extradited AUC head Salvatore Mancuso was sentenced to
40 years in prison by an Antioquia court Monday. He was sentenced for
the murder of 12 people in Uraba in 1994 and 1997.
Mancuso, who was extradited to the U.S. in May to face drug charges, led Colombia’s paramilitary umbrella organization AUC since its official beginning in 1997 until the demobilization in 2007.
‘El Mono’ was found guilty of the murders of the three sons of farmer Alejandro Antonio Padilla and stealing his cattle in 1994. Three years later mancuso’s paramilitary troops came back to burn down Padilla’s house, killing both the father and three more members of the farmer’s family. Months later two more familymembers of Padilla were murdered.
