2.5 tons of cocaine seized during two operations on Wednesday belonged to the FARC and criminal gang “Los Rastrojos,” Colombian authorities told local media Wednesday.
In the first operation, the Navy coordinated with the investigators from the Prosecutor General’s office to confiscate 1.5 tons of cocaine that were hidden in a mangrove forest in the southwest Narino department.
“Apparently, the stash was part of an alliance between the criminal gang Los Rastrojos and the financial structures of the FARC. This seizure prevented more than $38 million from entering the logistical structures of these narco-terrorist organizations,” said the Navy in its official report.
Another ton of cocaine was found on a lobster boat intercepted by the Navy in a coastal town in the northwest Choco department. The authorities arrested the four-man crew who had attempted to escape by jumping overboard.
“It seems that this cache was meant to finance the FARC’s 30th Front who operates in this region. This operation prevented $25 million from entering the finances of the illegal armed group,” reported the Navy.
Both shipments were on route to international distribution centers in Central America.
