Colombia unemployment continues to rise

Colombia’s urban unemployment rate rose to 13.5% in March from 12% in
the same month in 2008, the national statistics department DANE said
Thursday.

General unemployment also rose from 11.2% to 12%, but less drastically than that within the metropolitan areas of the countries.

204,000 Colombians lost their job over the past year, bringing the total of unemployed Colombians at 1.3 million.

The cities with the highest unemployment rate are Ibagué (19.8%), Medellin (18%) and Pereira (17.3%)
